UET carries out the ECAT test each year. This test is taken annually by thousands of candidates to get admission to well-known universities of engineering. The ECAT test normally took place in August, while the UET schedule followed the inter-exams in July.

Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English sections are included in the standardized ECAT format, while English content may be changed in accordance with university rules. For example in the case, UET Lahore's ECAT format is different from NUST ECAT format.
